Half Term Saved With Microadventures Tool for Family Road Trips

A 'micro adventure' generator has been created to help families have more days out closer to home.

Simply input your postcode, with key details about what kind of trip you want to take - and the tool will suggest options for a perfect journey this half term.

Select establishments have even been named “Top Micro Adventure Location” - adorned with a sticker so travellers know they're in for a good time.

It comes after research of 1,000 parents with children aged 5-11, commissioned by temporary car insurance provider Tempcover, found 98 per cent struggle with finding fun and engaging activities for their children, during school breaks.

As a result of a lack of inspiration, 65 per cent of parents rely on screen time to keep kids entertained – so 54 per cent often seek out ideas online for inspiration.

While nearly four in ten (37 per cent) would feel more confident in planning trips if they had better access to information on where to go.

Marc Pell, Managing Director for Tempcover said: "You don't have to jet off abroad or stick to the same old soft play centres, parks and coffee shops this half term, instead, exploring nearby gems could lead to even greater family adventures.

“Our Micro Adventures generator is designed to be a valuable resource, helping parents uncover fresh and exciting activities just a short drive from their doorstep.”

And while 57 per cent do some planning for the school breaks, they also like to leave a little room for spontaneity.

With 15 per cent often deciding on activities at the last minute, and just under a tenth (eight per cent) not planning at all – and simply ‘going with the flow’.

Around three quarters (70 per cent), however, feel pressure to make school breaks as fun and exciting as possible for their children.

At the same time, 91 per cent consider it important for their family to experience new and unique experiences together, according to the OnePoll.com data.

Travelling and day trips (54 per cent) were voted the best way of creating meaningful memories, followed by a visit to the beach (52 per cent) or going swimming or to a water park (35 per cent).

More than half (54 per cent) say more affordable options would make parents feel more confident in their holiday planning.

But for just under a quarter (23 per cent), better access to transport would go a long way to boosting their activities.

And 34 per cent would be motivated to go on more adventures if they could split the driving.

Marc Pell from Tempcover, added: "The half term break is a great opportunity for families to connect, which is why it’s important to ensure everyone enjoys it to the fullest.

“A family road trip is the perfect way to escape the everyday routine and create memories that will last a lifetime.

"You don’t even need to own a car with temporary car insurance – you can borrow one for the day, or parents can also take turns driving to lighten the load.

“That way, you can focus on what truly matters – spending quality time together and making lasting memories.”
